I have 1969 427 tri-power with stock mufflers and it sounds like my moms Buick. Has anyone tried a muffler that sounds great or loud. I have seen the chambered exhaust but I would rather just change the mufflers. Thanks Rick

Re: 1969 muffler
Rick,
Since finding original mufflers (other than repros) is nealy impossible, I went with a set of Magnaflows from Corvette Central (in & out pipes already welded on).
I love the way they sound, more of a mellow rumble, nothing to upset the neighbors.
You can listen to the mufflers on each companies (Magnaflow, Flowmaster, etc.) mufflers on their web sites.

Re: 1969 muffler
Rick------
Are you sure that they are, indeed, stock GM mufflers? With almost certainty, the right side has been replaced and GM mufflers for Corvettes, especially the 2" variety used for all 1969's, have been discontinued for a long time. The original Corvette mufflers, PRODUCTION or SERVICE, are the best sounding mufflers EVER. Aftermarket replacements have more-or-less generic core mufflers and don't sound the same, at all.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1969 muffler
Rick in the latest issue of Corvette Fever April 08 issue on page 18 they show a new line of DynoMax mufflers for 70-72 Corvettes that come with the polished tips. The mufflers look very similiar to the 68-72 muffler design. DynoMax says they are a performance muffler that produces good sound. Less the polished extensions, this might be the sound and performance you are seeking.- Top

Re: 1969 muffler
I know.
But, I know that the tooling is currently being built. I would hope that they will be available late this year.
Can't say more yet, though I will say it's not me building them. Audio testing reveals them to exactly match NOS mufflers.

Patrick,
This is exciting news! Do you know if they will have the dual hanger brackets for C2/C3 as the service replacements did? Or will they offer different mufflers specific for C2? Are they also identical in appearance to originals for judging? Will they make off road and standard versions as well?
I have some NOS mufflers that I've never had the heart to mount due to the rarity. I guess I'll have to sell them off before these hit the market!- Top

Re: 1969 muffler
Patrick,
Do you know if side exhaust mufflers will be included as reproductions with the under car exhaust system mufflers?

Re: 1969 muffler
Thanks doc,
I have a NOS pair in my study for judging. The side mufflers on it now are '67 design and the left one is loosely connected to the manifold. Trying to be careful with fasteners, whether original or not.
