Is the heater core cover with the flapper that is located in the engine compartment painted with the black out or is this cover natural fiberglass?

Re: C1 Heater cover
Can you elaborate on how the engine compartment went together so that I can determine what did and did not get black out paint?
I believe the following items were installed when the compartment was painted.
- clips for the wires and speedo cable
- windshield wiper motor base
- the "W" shaped heater hose clip on the underside of the passenger side fender
- dimmer switch
- push through firewall pad rubber clips
I believe the following were not installed when the compartment was painted.
- brake master cylinder
- brake lines and blocks
- all the rubber grommets
Not sure about
- Radiator frame?
- Vacuum tank for windshield washers?
- voltage regulator?
- horn relay?
- clutch rod hole cover?
- accelerator pedal linkage?- Top

Wire/cable clips, the wiper motor base, hood latches, and the radiator support were installed in the Body Shop, and thus were present during painting and engine compartment blackout; everything else (including the "W"-clip for the heater hoses) was installed on the Hard Trim Line, after the Paint Shop. Everything that was installed in the Body Shop had to survive 280*F for an hour in the first prime oven, plus the subsequent second prime and color ovens.- Top

Re: master cyl. overspray
John...
Can you describe the blackout spray over the master cylinder...I understand that the master cylinder was unplated and not painted. That the overspray from the black out process only covered the right side facing the cylinder and sometimes over the top? Is this correct?- Top

We're talking two DIFFERENT blackout operations, with two different types of paint - the engine compartment and underhood blackout was done in the Paint Shop, prior to the final color oven, on the body shell, using flattened black lacquer. The blackout sometimes seen on the outboard side of the C1 master cylinder was done on the Chassis Line, just prior to body drop; the master cylinder was on the chassis, and was attached to the firewall after body drop. C1's had extensive chassis blackout, using cheap, sticky asphaltic-based paint sprayed out of 55-gallon drums next to the line.
Chassis blackout was reduced significantly in 1963-64, and beginning in 1965 it was confined almost exclusively to the mufflers.- Top
