have a 65 with the top left piece of the original trim tag broken off. all that is missing is the build date. car is a two owner very original car so it really does not concern me but I am just curious in opinions if this would ever be a problem if I chose in the future to sell the car. it is a 250 horse low option car thanks!

It'll raise eyebrows, especially if it lists a desirable color/interior combination.- Top

Re: 65 trim tag
you asked if the fact that your trim tag is missing the upper left corner (with body build date) would "ever be a problem if I chose in the future to sell the car."
IMO, while I agree that you should be able to prove (to yourself) that it is the original trim tag (perhaps through the use of the Trim Tag Authentication Book, and confirming that the body number lines up properly with other known originals of that time, and that the the numbers reported at Style, Trim and Paint make sense for a 65), the answer to your above question is still a bit of a yes, since it will raise questions and require some 'splaining from you when selling the car - the general C2-buying public might pause on it, even if it is legitmate.
Same thing for a factory grind out stamp pad - if legitimate it is interesting and perfectly legit, but you will surely have some 'splaining to do when selling the car with a stamp pad that doesn't "look like all the others."65 MM Convertible, L76 (365 hp)- Top

Re: 65 trim tag
The body serial number on the tag provides another way to determine the approximate build date of the body, so it should still be possible to confirm that the body build date and the VIN are a reasonable match. If you want feedback on how well they match, post the info here and people with cars close to your VIN can comment on the body serial number of their car.
If this is the original trim tag, you should definitely leave it as-is. Some buyers may be spooked by the damaged trim tag, but others may not care at all.- Top

Having a bit of a problem visualizing ....
just the missing top-left piece. The Body date is about 20-25% of the way inward from the left edge of the entire trim tag, and the other stamped data (ie. STYLE) is just underneath. If the date code was missing, I'd wager that the STYLE stamping was damaged as well. Best to post the numbers, as others suggest, or better still, a close-up pic.
Also, how closely have you looked at it ? Sometimes, the top edge of the tag is bent back over the bar of the birdcage, and APPEARS in a photo as if it's missing.- Top
