Silk Screening on air cleaner lid

I am having my air cleaner lid re-chromed locally and will soon need to have the silk screen on the underneath side redone. Where are good sources to have this performed?

I have seen that Paragon lists service in their catalog, but am quite sure that they are not actually performing the work. (i.e. they send it to someone else and charge a markup for coordinating it). I would prefer to deal directly with a company/person who would actually be doing the work if possible rather than adding unneccesary steps to the process.

If anyone is familiar with vendors for this, please let me know.

        Hi Brad:

The Paragon silk screen is not a good match for the original, will typically get a deduction in judging.

I suggest you call Richard Fortier at 810-750-1472 (he advertises in the Driveline). The artwork that Richard uses is much closer to the original design. My lid got full credit with this artwork at the NCRS National last July.

By the way, for NCRS judging, the chrome on your lid should be a very thin "flash chrome" comprised of a thin chrome plating directly over copper, with no intermediate nickel plating and no intermediate buffing. Most platers will over do it and you will get a deduction.

In my opinion, the chrome on the "flash chrome" lid sold by Paragon is just right. Since Paragon uses the original GM tool to make the lids, their reproduction lid is pretty good except for the silk screen.

          Brad,

I have researched this for about a year. I finally sent mine to Richard Fortier(advertises in The Driveline). The silkscreen is dead on perfect. Not even close to the past reproduction silk screening from others. I have an original lid with almost perfect silkscreen and the Fortier silkscreen is exactly the same, the print is raised, etc.

            Joe.

I will not be surprised if my lid ends up with a thicker plating as I did not specify for him to not use nickel (nor was I familiar enough with the process to tell them that). Anyway, it will definitely look better than it did before rechroming.

I will follow up with Richard, thanks for the info.

That is two recommendations for him, will definitely pursue it.

                Hi Brad:

If you want to maximize your judging points, consider just buying the $80 Paragon flash chrome lid and having Richard silkscreen it. I think the Paragon silk screen can be easily removed, or you can do a special order for a lid with no silk screen.

Unless Paragon has changed there design there lid will not pass. The outer lip is wrong. Your better off with your original.
