I'm trying to validate my understanding. For a 270hp car the correct exhaust system is round mufflers with the cross over pipe, correct? Also which joints are welded verses clamped? Thanks, Ted

Re: Is there a difference in point deductions for.
Ted there is a difference in how stainless and aluminized are judged. But it ain't a simple either/or. Starts out with the material, configuration, fit, etc. I will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. The point difference will have to be determined on a case by case situation. A poorly configured aluminized system could conceiveably score worse than a properly configured stainless. Normally though, stainless will take a larger point deduction than aluminized.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: Muffler shape opinions..misunderstood??
I still don't understand why NCRS says that 270 and 290 H.P. cars use the off road exhaust. There was never an option for these systems until 1962. If you look in the 1958-1960 sections of Noland Adams book you see two factory photos of two different cars both with crossover exhaust and oval mufflers, not round. Its my understanding that all the 57's had round mufflers no matter the horsepower and they were standard...not a special option. Then for 58-61 the factory simply changed the shape...thats all.- Top
