I have what I believe are the original valve covers for my '68 L79. As expected, the plating shows it's age, but there are also a few small scratches/dings, with a rather big dent, for a valve cover, on the end of one of the covers. Does anyone know of a source to have these straightened and replated? Could a good bumper/trim/etc shop take care of the dent and do the flash plating? I'm not real familiar with plating, but I know the difference between something like flash plating and triple show quality plating. The TIM&JG (just got it, great info!) states they should be flash plated. Thanks.
Most any local plating shop can do the job for you. You simply have to sit down and talk to the owner/mgr. The typical plating shop just won't duplicate the factory original shoddy plate work (it's a matter of pride). But, if you show 'em the original and explain the nature of your factory concours quest (like original, not better), most guys will make a special effort to give you crummy work (provided you DON'T tell others where the work was done)--it's a pride thing!
