    Big Block Rear Main Seal

A couple months ago, I had a rear main seal leak on my big block. I had the seal replaced by an experienced mechanic, but the seal is still leaking. The mechanic feels that the GM seals are made of "pretty hard material" and possibly an aftermarket seal might work better. The seal in question is GM #473471, which is what the parts book calls for ('65-'74 big block). Has anyone out there had any experience with aftermarket rear main seals? Fel-Pro? Mr Gasket? Do you feel the aftermarket seals are any better than the GM seal?

did he put sealer on the rear main cap? if you do not use sealer you will have a leak past the cap.
