    67 Dash Detailing

I would like to improve the appearance of the center dash panel in my 67 coupe, in particular the areas around the radio, heater and A/C controls, A/C outlet and speaker grill. In redoing the interior, I did not consider removing and refinishing the dash as the dash pads were in great shape and the dash finish appeared ok at the time. Now that the rest of the interior looks like new the dash panel detracts from the overall appearance of the interior. Is there anything I can do to restore the original finish? Would a very light sanding with 1000 grit paper be appropriate. Is there something else that I could use to remove the accumulated grime and improve the finish short of removing the panel and painting it? Also, can the black bezel which surrounds the A/C outlet be removed from the front for refinishing?
