Does anyone know how Allen's welded off road exhaust system compares to the original N11 option?

With respect to EXTERNAL appearance it's about as close as you can get to the originals. There are some slight differences like the fact that the pipes are mandrel bent as opposed to, what I believe, were die-formed originals. I think that they will provide the rear exhaust pipe "flattened" if you so desire although, due to the different means by which the pipes are bent, the "flattening" does not produce a configuration exactly like the originals. But, as I say, they are about the closes to original there is on the market today. Also, they are of excellent quality.
As far as INTERNAL construction, they are considerably different than the originals. Originals exhaust pipes were "double wall" thickness tubing. Also, the internal baffling is not the same as the originals. Since an exhaust system's precise "exhaust note" is a function of ALL of the nuances of exhaust system construction, the exhaust sound is NOT the same as the originals, in my opinion.

The original pipe in front of the muffler is almost a box shape. Sort of like the c-5 frame rails being formed by hydro-pressure. Most of the current pipes are "round" in shape. Easy to spot on juding field. Depends upon what you are after as to original. Ken- Top

Re: allen's off road exhaust
I never had the originals, because mine were replaced over the years with the standard configuration. When I rebuilt my engine, I put Allens off-road setup on. I can't vouch for the originality, but I like the sound a lot. It sounds like a corvette again. It also helps the performance of the 270hp motor. I did have some problem with the installation as one of the crossover pipes was not fitting properly. I sent it back and they gave me the proper one without any hassle. I thought it would be louder, like a Harley with open pipes, but it isn't. My wife even said, "turn off the radio, and listen to the motor" was I suprised. I'm happy with it.

Re: allen's off road exhaust
Ken - I'm a little stuck here. I want more sound, so I decided the off road exhaust would be good since that was an option in 1965 and I'd like to stick to orignality. I thought I could get by with this at judging, as opposed to changing the car to side pipes like so many do "illegally". However, if your suggesting that I will get deductions anyway with repro Allen's off road, I may consider Allen's chambered undercar exhaust simply for the sound. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks- Top

Re: allen's off road exhaust
Don't know about the Allen's undercar chambered system for the Corvette, but the factory chambered system for the '69 Z/28 has been shown in back-to-back chassis dyno testing to cost nearly 30hp compared to the factory conventional dual exhaust system.- Top

Re: allen's off road exhaust
I am using the exhaust on a 1960 283 270hp motor. I had the baffled on-road without the crossover. The off road is a straight thru design which lets the engine breathe plus there is crossover on the head pipes the balances the flow.
Mine is fairly close to original. Souns better too.- Top
