    60 Headlight bezels

I am working on a 60 and the fit of the the headlight bezels are giving me fits! The body is fine. It seems the bezels have a very poor plating job. The edge is jagged and not true where the body meets them. Also the trim on the top sticks up. Very ugly! Can't have this, high C.V.A. Where can I get the best fitting bezels from?

Paul, In my experience, there are NO sources for 58-60 headlight doors! After sending 5 sets back to 3 different vendors, I bought a scratched up set and had them plated myself. The rough edges were on every repro set I got and the quality of the plating was awful! Richard at Paragon told me that they were all like that now days. sometimes the vendors will get a set that is just too bad to sell, and they will deeply discount them to you so you can have them plated. Keep in mind that the fit at the windsplit molding was very poor on originals and will be a possible deduct of points if the fit is made too good.

As John says, the tab at the top sticking up too much is how they were from the factory. I'd take the set you have, grind off the rough areas and replate them. It seems unfair to have to do this for a "new" set, but if you add in all the time and money (include shipping) to do it any other way, it's probably your best bet. And be careful about buying a poor condition set to save money. If they are pitted too badly, your plater either won't do them or will charge you a lot to repair them.

        Re: 60 Headlight bezels

Mike is right, I should have made my post more clear. Most old pitted headlight doors are too far gone to plate cost effectively. I recommend buying a new set that have plating defects in them that makes them unusable and restore them. Having to replate a set that costs $40 is a lot less painful then having to replate a $100+ set. It is a crying shame that we have to take brand new parts and rework them so that they are acceptable!!!! John

Paul, I too have a 60 with the same problem of the headlight bezels sticking up way too far above the center fender trim. While I was having the painting and body work done, I realized that the fenders had been worked before and the center area where the trim strip goes the length of the fender had been sanded down too far resulting in the trim strip setting lower. I built up the center area so as to make a better albeit it not a perfect match.
          Just my two cents worth.
