    66 Amp (battery) Gauge

The amp (battery) gauge on my recently purchased 66 350hp roadster is not working. In checking with a test light I find that there is power at both connections on the back of the gauge. The gauge is non reactive showing slightly into the charge area but the needle never moves.Any ideas ? Thanks in advance....

I also have a 66. It is a small block but I am sure that the unit is the same. Mine never seems to move aswell. This car has been with me sense 1969. The only time I see it move is when the car is jump started or has a charger on it. I will also move when the battery is all but dead and then the car runs to charge it. I have taken the road, "if ant broke don't fix it". Hope this helps!

Pete, My 67 has the same gauge. It will show a discharge when cranking the engine, or when a heavy electrical load is applied with the engine off, such as rotating the headlights. When first started, it will usually show a small charge for a couple of minuets and then taper off to just above the center mark. If your battery is in real good shape, you won't see a whole lot of movement in the amp gauge.

It should have power on both legs of the circuit. Many times the connection on the firewall is the culprit. Take the bulkhead connector apart and clean the contacts.
