    67 CORVETTE BATTERY

    HI
I AM LOOKING AT A NOS BATTERY FOR MY 67 CONV. AND THE SELLER SAYS IT IS CORRECT FOR MY CAR BUT THE NCRS JUDGING MANUEL SAYS ITS NOT.
    THE BATTERY IS A Y-59 NOT A R-59
    ANY HELP?
    THANKS FOR YOUR TIME
    TONY

Y-59 was the "low line" replacement Delco battery sold to service-replace replace the R-59 as a "Price Leader". It has less Cold Cranking amps and reserve power. Conversley, today's Reproduction Batteries have Greater cold cranking amps and reserve power, FYI. The Y-59 is not a 100% accurate itam for judging if the judge can detect the Y-59 ID on the case.

Tony, If you can get the battery as cheap as a repro, I would go for it. I think it will recieve a good score compared to the original.

Only a thought, but from experience, I find the service life of an NOS Y-series battery is about two years at best.

Bill, I find the service life of a Repro. Battery less that two years! Mine lasted 18 mo's!( R-89)

I still have the Tartop in my '62 I put in it when I fired the car about 5 years ago. The one for my '65 also lasted about the same (now deceased) Most judges don't do much with a repro battery at the current state of the art, and a Y-59 is not a 100% item either, and was an inferior product when new. I'm for NOS, but this is NORS at best, and a substandard item at that when new.
