Rear View Mirror

On page 19 of the 1966 Corvette Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide (Orange Cover) it says: "1966 models use one of two possible mirrors. The second version is a non-glare (day-night) mirror is the standard mirror in 1966."

My question is, what is the first version (if there is one)? My 66 roadster has a non day-night mirror with glass dated 5DMI66. Is this a correct mirror?

Joe - The 3rd Ed, 1st Printing, Spring 1998, p19 of the 1966 TIM&JG has a glaring proofing err. If you have a copy of the Fall 1993-2nd Ed, 1st Printing, check the write up on p. 22.

The older version has the correct verbage and reads as follows:

2nd paragraph - One versionhas a chrome plated cast mirror body approximately 8 inches in length with a dated glass. Check for the date code in the lower right hand corner of the glass.

3rd paragraph - The 2nd version is a non-glare (day-night) mirror w/o a date code. The mirror is stainless steel approximately 8 incheds in lenght with th words "GUIDE" and "GLARE PROFF" appearing on the top of the mirror. A 1/2" gray lever on the bottom edge of the mirror turns 90 degrees moving the mirror up for night driving.
