    Shermersheim Front Clip??

Does anyone know how to contact or the correct spelling of Shermersheim?? I think he is in Indiana and his first name is Jim. He's the guy who supposedly makes pretty good fiberglass front clips and other body parts.
Would anyone not recommend his front clips? Many people recommend corvette image but they are so much more expensive.

    Thank You...John

    Hi John,
Jim Sermersheim (812)424-4701, I bought a Fan Shroud and a fender from him and the quality was top knotch. I also bought a front clip for my 67 from ACI which fit really well.

    Regards Myles

        John:

If you are looking for authenticity, then Corvette Image is the only way to go. Shermersheim's panels are good quality for a "driver", but are gelcoated inside and out, which is great for protection, but a no-no for the show circuit.

Joe, more out of curiosity than need, how can you tell that a panel has been gel coated once it is painted on both sides? Other than that, are the panels good?

            John,
Corvette Image supplys the PM panels for vendors such as CC
and Eckler's, which will give you a 10% discount.

            Good Luck,

You certainly can tell on any underside surface where there was no priming and sanding preparation. The coloring is also a factor and whe original panals were sandblasted around the bonding areas. On Shemersheim`s panels where the gelcoat is knocked off by this process often exposes bubbles and voids that show.

                Gary:

It depends on which panel we are talking about. The following panels are to be left unpainted inside, and are sublect to scrutiny for Flight judging:

                Taillight panel
                Quarterpanels (parts outside the wheelhouses)
                Exhaust filler panel
                Rear deck
                Front lower valence panel
                Front nose lower center panel
Front surround (in the area of the header bar)
Floor pan (except in the forward part of the trans tunnel)

                  Sermesheim JUNK

I've been doing some 'glass work on a car with a lot of Sermersheim replacement panels on the front, and there is not enough resin content in the panels. In my opinion, they are crap (pardon my French). Full of holes and areas of dry cloth with absolutely no resin in between. I have debated ripping the panels off and junking them for new Corvette Image panels, but I already have too much time and money invested. Do yourself a favor, spend a few dollars extra and get the Image front end, or even a hand-laid one piece!
