    Holley Experts-3370 Help MBR#31693

I just bought a 3370 carb off of ebay and it was delivered today. I don't believe this is a true 3370. The air horn has all of the right numbers, however the metering block is marked as 7089. Both fuel bowls look different than what is shown in Chevy by the Numbers. I am thinking someone got a hold of a 3370 body and bolted on the rest of the incorrect parts, possibly a late 70's model. Call me silly, but when I say the air horn (which was magnified) with all the right numbers, I trusted that the rest of the carb would have been correct. Silly me (again###..).

Is is possible that this could be a reproduction? I'm trying to think positive but am beginning to feel that I've been had.

As always, your assistance is very much appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Deb-----

First of all, most, if not all, of the Holley reproduction carburetors have an "O" prefix to the list number; originals usually have an "R" prefix. So, that's one way of telling the reproductions from the originals. Holley produced near exact reproductions for many early carbs, but they chose to distinguish the reproductions from the originals by this little "feature". It was a good decision, in my opinion.

Otherwise, many Holley components are interchangeable from carb-to-carb. So, one can take an air horn assembly (the part with the "numbers" on a Holley) and, within certain practical limitations, mix-and-match other components such as fuel bowls, metering blocks, and, even, throttle bodies. Some combinations may not even work well together but they can be physically "bolted together".

A while back I was fortunate enough to purchase an original Holley 3210. This carb was originally used on 1965 full size Chevrolets with the L-78 396 and is similar, in most respects, to the 3224 used on 1965 Corvette L-78s. The particular carb I purchased was brand new, in-the-box, and with a 1968 SERVICE date. This carb [not for sale] is a real "time warp" piece. The nice part, in a deal like this, is that one pretty much knows that all of the pieces are as originally assembled. A lot can be learned from an un-molested piece like this. That's the only reason I purchased it. Plus, I'd never seen another one like it for sale in my life.

      Thanks, Joe.

Looks like I have a correct air horn with a bunch of other bolted on Holley parts. I guess I can kiss that money goodbye.

If the air horn is in good condition and correctly dated for your application (assuming that dates are important to you), then maybe the carb is worth it to you, after all. The air horn is the "main piece". Whatever other original pieces which you lack may be a lot easier to find than a complete, correctly dated carburetor. Plus, the pieces which you have that are not correct for your application may well be just what someone else is looking for. So, the point is, they may be very saleable.

          Joe:

You're always so optimistic. Thank you for making me feel better about a bad situation.

I see that my emails are coming in stating to reply to the bulletin board, otherwise I would be mailing directly to you. Did they change the format?

          Thanks,

          Deb
