Have no key to my spare tire holder I have tried all the ones given to me and none work. Is it a specal key, door key, or ignition. Any suggestions on getting in or is it a job for a locksmith? thanks

Re: 65 spare tire lock
In '65, the GB key operated the spare tire lock, let's diagnose. Look at the keyway on you your current spare tire lock. If you see a tiny hole completely within the chrome keyway bezel, you have a non-original spare tire lock on the car. Original spare locks in this era had the pin hole (cylinder release mechanism) at the outer edge of the chrome keyway bezel (hole resembles 'half-moon' chip at the outer edge of chrome).
Most of the GM service spare, spare tire locks sported a universal keyway (one lock fits all styles of Corvette keys) and the lock body/cylinder was of the '67 and later style (release hole within the chrome bezel). If the lock on your spare is of the later style, then someone has replaced the factory original and apparently didn't bother to have it keyed to match the glove box....
From underneath the car, you can un-do the bolts holding the spare tire tub's lock bolt bracket to the rear frame rail. You can walk the lock bolt, lock bolt bracket and attached lock into a locksmith and have him 'pick' the lock and re-key it to match your glove box.- Top
