Does the side of the Fel Pro Printoseal intake gasket with the blue gasket material face up toward the intake or down toward the head and does the side of the gasket without the printed gasket material require RTV sealant? I've always used the stock gaskets with a little gasket shellac on them. First time for these. Thanks.

Re: Stupid Intake Gasket Question of the Day
In my hands I have Fel Pro MS 90314-2 PermaTorque/Bluestripe 262-327 and others. It says on the gasket "This side up" install as directed. Put a little bit of Permatex BLUE RTV gasket maker, 6B in each corner where the gaskets all come together. Continue installation.- Top

Re: Stupid Intake Gasket Question of the Day
I would surmise that the "print-o-seal" should bear against the inlet manifold since it has the thinnest section.
The Felpro head gasket I recently installed on my Cosworth Vega was designed so that the print-o-seal bears against the open deck cylinder case. The head surface overlaps the outside perimeter of the case, so the print-o-seal effectively seals between the relatively thin outside perimeter of the water jacket and the large surface area of the head.

Re: Stupid Intake Gasket Question of the Day
Duke: I used the same type head gaskets as you describe. They are plainly marked with "UP". Even I couldn't put them in wrong. Regarding the intake, do you think that with the "printing" towards the manifold that the bottom gasket surface (which has no sealer printed on it) need RTV of gasket shellac?- Top

Re: Stupid Intake Gasket Question of the Day
If you're reasonably certain that the surfaces are true I would not use a sealer.
I'm in the habit of spraying gaskets with silocone spray and wiping both surfaces with the same. That way the gaskets come off easily the next time you take it appart.
On my Cosworth Vega I glue the cam cover gasket to the cover and silicone spray the bottom of the gasket and the cam carrier mounting surface. I can get the cover off and on about six times before I need a new gasket. It's best to use new gaskets if they are available, but I'm anal about valve lash checks, and I only have a finite supply of cam cover gaskets to last the duration.
