The shifter on my 56 P/G was rebuilt right before I bought it and it is nice and tight. The problem is that when the former owner rebuilt it he didn't replace the rusty shifter stick. The nice chrome ball sits atop of this cruddy stick. I would like to replace just that part without replacing the whole unit. None of the suppliers I have checked with carry the single part. Does anyone know if they make this particular part or am I going to have to hold off while I get the current piece replated. Sure would be handier and quicker if I could find the part. Am I wondering in the dark here? I have no real knowledge of the shifter assembly but the mechanic said the shifter itself was fine. What do I do??

Re: '56 Powerglide shifter
Steve,
The two venders with C C's in their name list a shifter part which attaches to the transmission which may be the part (?) you are looking for. Price is over $90. If it were me, I'd use the original as is until the driving season is over and then have it replated (probably way less than $90). If the stick bothered me too much through the season, I'd wrap it with bright shiny contact paper. Regards,- Top
