    65 numbers

Trying to see how original my car is with the components and de-code
not sure on all the #s but here is what I have found.
VIN 19465S120082, Style 65467, Trim STD body S6565,Paint 900 MM above style K-16
engine 5120082F061HT rear-end on bottom 3AN21968W, holly carb List4478 under it is 2984
intake 44461 Exh manifold lt 3848563 rt 3797902 trans main casting 3851325 and made by GM on passenger side behind starter is 3858403. On top of the block on drivers side is 3858174 and on the passenger side behind distributer is 1165 with no letter on it.
from what I have been able to find out is some are casting and some are are ID numbers I think the engine code should have another number from what I have read but I have looked and keep just seeing these listed. Is there anything in the car befoe 67 on the car that talks of original equipment besides protecto plate and window sticker? This was to be a two owner car.

    Re: 65 numbers

    > VIN 19465S120082

... should be 194675S120082 (this serial was built late June '65)

    > Style 65467, Trim STD body S6565,Paint 900 MM above style K-16

... probably "65867" for '65 convertible, trim is black vinyl interior
    ... St Louis-built convert body #6565
... 900 is St Louis prefix and MM is Milano Maroon paint
... K-16 is a June 16 body build date, consistent with vehicle serial

    > engine 5120082F061HT

... '65 serial 120082, engine assembled in Flint, MI
... 061 doesn't seem right (but may be OK), I'd expect 0601 or 601 for June 1 date
    ... HT is 350hp w/hydraulic lifters, 4 speed, no A/C

    > rear-end on bottom 3AN21968W,

... AN means 3.55:1 ratio w/positraction, but the rest seems to be a 2/19/68 build date by Warner Gear & Axle, so likely not the original differential

    > holly carb List4478 under it is 2984

... not correct carb, should be LIST R2818A with GM part number 3849804 also present on air horn

    > intake 44461

    ... correct intake

    > Exh manifold lt 3848563 rt 3797902

    ... correct exhausts

    > trans main casting 3851325

    ... correct casting

    > made by GM on passenger side behind starter is 3858403.

    ... correct bellhousing

    > block casting 3858174 and on the passenger side behind distributer is 1165 with no letter on it.

... My guide says this was only used on Corvettes in '66, but it was a common block used from 64-67 in other cars & trucks, so POSSIBLY it's an exception.
But, the 1165 is troubling. The first "1" might be an "I" for Sept 16 of '65; if so it's strange that it has a date after the stamped assembly date. It could be a clue, in conjunction with the block casting number 3858174 and the assembly stamping, that this is really a re-stamped '66 block.

... No, build sheets were not placed in the Corvette until 1967

        Re: 65 numbers Style code

My style code is 65467 and not 65867. What does the code for 65467?
Not real happy about the news but it has helped.

Jimmy, Now that you bought the car it is time to buy the literature. Better late than never. May I suggest the Judging Manual, the AIM, Noland Adams "Corvette Restoration & Technical Guide #2 ( just came back into print), "Mike Antonick's "Corvette Black Book , Muriel F. Dobbins "Vette Vues Fact Book of the 1963-67 Sting Ray", an older Parts Book used by Chevrolet for ordering parts in the 60's through the 90's ( the older the better), the NCRS 1953-1972 Corvette Specifications Guide( may not be in print any more but very worth while owning) AND join the NCRS pronto.
Have you checked the trnasmission for a date code stamped vertically on the pass side? Example: P0430 (April 30) On driver's side of trans look for a vertical stamping with the last digits of your serial number. Have you found you serial number stamped on top of the frame kick-up behind the drivers rear tire? Good luck with the hunt!

            Re: 65 numbers

You might want to buy a copy of the NCRS Corvette Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide, which has detailed and comprehensive information on numbers, bolts, colors, etc. It's really worth its weight in gold if you're trying to determine how original your car is. Jim Hansen.

              Re: 65 numbers Style code

Relax, Jimmy -- Your 65 467 trim code is correct for your S-body convertible. The 867 was for the '63/'64 timeframe.

Early '65 S-bodies even had "65 19467" (or 65 437 for a coupe body) but the 3rd edition of the NCRS Technical Manual does not cover this anomaly. This may have been rectified in the currently available 4th edition.
