Cleaning method for case of transmission?

What method is best for cleaning grime off my M22 (out of the car)?

I've elbow greased it as much as possible to get this far...I was planning on blasting (glass bead) the other tough parts to give it a 'new appearance' until I saw the post about blasting aluminum. Is the case aluminum or that potmetal material? Any suggestions?

    Thanks as always, Jason

I used a scrub brush and Simple Green on my T-10 aluminum case and it really cleaned up nicely.

Ditto on the Simple Green and a hard bristle brush. I use it in a fairly strong strength and it will clean quite well.

I've also used brake cleaner to blast the grime off....and I've heard that the Eagle One etching mag wheel cleaner works well, too.

Both available at Auto Zone, Advance, etc.

            Hope that helps!

The Eagle One stuff you want is "Etching Mag Cleaner" for rough cast alloy wheels - has a "B" uniform wheel care symbol, not to be used for polished aluminum - their #1010626. Also pretty effective on stained old aluminum valve covers. Be sure and read the "Cautions" panel - it contains hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid, and sufuric acid - use outdoors, safety goggles and nitrile rubber gloves mandatory. Nasty stuff, but it works.
