    Differential Numbers

Just cleaned and painted the differential housing on my 62. S/N of the car is 879 which makes its build date in the first few days of October. The P/N3789812 housing has a casting date J 16 1 and is stamped CB 10 26. The posi carrier is stamped 9 22 1. I bought the car in 67 so I know that since then it hasn't been changed. What would explain this? Were cars pulled off the line when parts were not available? or possibly a dealer changeout?

Sounds like Chevrolet Service at a dealership replaced the original posi with this unit for some reason or the other.

      P.S.

The only thing that bothers me is the "CB" code. That's production Corvette specific. The service replacements were void of this code. Perhaps this was a trade-out deal and this posi was unique to another production Corvette. I believe the 812's were passenger car and truck items as well.
