    1962 Inerior Questions

I'm in the middle of doing the interior on my '62 (build date 15 June 1962). three related questions:

1: Does the seat track forward attach plate and 5/16" bolt go under the

carpet, or on top? I've heard opposing opinions, but want to do it the

    correct way.

2: Does the vinyl seat back cover at the bottom stretch outside the

angular bracket on the seat bottom frame (where the back attaches to

seat bottom), thus covering the upper 5/16" bolt? OR does the material

wrap inside the bottom bracket (thus requiring a hole to be punched

thru the material. Wrapping around the outside of the seat bottom bracket requires some tough stretching and I'm concerned about a

    potential for future tearing.

3: Any hints for filling stripped out out holes in fiberglass without

using J nuts or riveted backing plates?

    Re: 1962 Inerior Questions

Hello Dick; I'll tackle question 3. I use/have used plastic concrete screw anchors. These are available in any hardware store. They are color coded for various sizes. They are supposed to be used to anchor screws in concrete or masonry. Buy a handfull of various sizes. Push or tap the anchor into the hole that is stripped. Then just use your regular screw to fasten the part into the plastic anchor. The screw expands the plastic. I've used these for rocker panels and sill plates. They have worked fine for me. I would not recommend these for any weight bearing situation. Hope this helps. Chuck Gongloff

      Re: 1962 Inerior Questions

Dick, I have documented on '56 Corvettes that the carpet went over the seat frame hold down bolts. I don't see why St. Louis would change for '62's.
