The book says there were two water pumps used on 63 L84 (and L76); 3859326 and 3782609; early 63s used the 609. Which pump should I use for #3901 built 27 Nov 62? Thanks much in advance for the help and best regards to all. steve

As I understand the Judging Manual, the 609 pump has the bypass. I can't see any numbers when the pump is on the car.
My L76 coupe #3914 has the bypass pump so I assume it is the 609.

Both the '609' and the '326' have the large boss on the top of the pump which is drilled and tapped for a 1/2" NPT fitting (3/4" on MUCH later '326' castings). However, I really think that Steve's car should have the '609'.In Appreciation of John HinckleyComment

Tom,
The part number can be easily observed with a mirror... I'm not sure which number is correct so you maybe able to help Steve by checking yours.

I have confirmed that #3914 definitely has the 609 water pump. I have owned this car for more than 20 years and have no reason to believe the pump is not the original.
Steve's car came down the line 13 cars ahead of mine so I think the 609 is a pretty safe bet!!Comment
