    Air Cleaner Cover

I purchased a 1964 air cleaner cover from Paragon. The plating appears to be correct, the rolled center hole looks correct, it has the correct sil-screen on the inside. Next to my original cover, the outside edge appears to be a bit taller. Do you know whether Paragon air cleaner covers meet the NCRS judging standards? I do have my original cover and can have that plated...but my plater says he cannot save the silk screen on the inside. Does anyone know a way to duplicate the silk screen.

Any suggestions on which route to take...have my original re-plated or use the Paragon reproduction?

    Piece of cake....

getting silk screen re-done. Take the lid to a silk screener and let him take a dimensioned digital photo of the existing silk screen. From this he'll make a screen mask and also get placement/color right (some were in black, others in white; BTW white silk screen can turn black from carbon adherence from backfire, test by GENTLY cleaning over the existing silk screee with mild soap & water).

Now, go have your orignal lid de-chromed, polished and re-chromed paying special attention to where/how the factory mounted original electrode(s). Some chrome shops like to drop a gob of hideous solder to the backside surface not understanding a concours judge is going to remove, invert and visually inspect.

Figure by the time you've paid the silk screener his setup fee to do qty 1 and paid the plater, you'll have laid out about 2x what a repro lid costs! Good luck.

      Re: Air Cleaner Cover

I know it's a little late now, but 2 years ago I spoke with Paragon and they agreed to re-chrome my original tripower air cleaner cover and replace the silk screen. Believe the price was about 75% of their repro. cover price.

So how does it look? Can't say, never did use them...I was in the final stages of finishing the '69 at the time, but acquired a '66 which I've been working on since, and haven't returned to the minor details needed on the '69.

      Good luck,
