    Differential Build Date Letter Designation

My '64 Convertible is equipped with the 327, 365Hp SHP Engine, M21 Muncie Close Ratio 4 speed transmission and 3.70 Ratio Differential with Posi-Traction.

What are the correct letters of designation preceeding the differential build date? Also what are the correct paint colors for the differential and the transverse spring?

    Patrick-----

Your differential carrier case should be coded "CD".

The differential carrier housing and cover were natural cast iron. They were not originally painted or coated in any fashion. The rear spring leaves were coated on the bottom surface of the leaves with a gray coating called Ikonoklad. Some of the paint coating may have dripped or otherwise been desposited on the sides of the leaves, so that the spring appeared to be fully coated gray. Since most of the sides of the leaves are covered by the ridges on the black, graphite-impregnated polyethylene spring liners, not much can really be seen of the sides, anyway. The top of the leaves, though, which can barely be seen with the car sitting on the suspension, were not coated and were bare steel.
