    Spark Plug Wire Route

Hi. I`m replacing the original spark plug wires on our `75 with Packard wires from Lectric Limited. My question is will the wires fit through the motor mounts without removing the boots? I don`t know if the boots ARE removable off either set and I really don`t want to ruin them by trying to pull them off. Thanks for any suggestions. P.S. I do remember someone saying that they wrapped each boot in a plastic sandwich bag and greased the outside of the bag to try and slip it through but I can`t remember if they said it worked or not.

    Brian:

Carefully remove the small boot from the distributor side by lightly oiling the end and slipping it off, kinda like taking off a you know. Thread the wire thru the mount from front to rear, put the dist. boot back on, and you're in business.

Hello, the distributor side of the new spark plug wires is easy to take out. Then cut the old wire in the spark plug side and tape with the mentioned dist side of the new one. Pull from the old wire and in seconds you will have the new wires along the shieldings, particularly the front cylinder ones, which are the difficult ones. If the old wires are already out, well you will need a thick wire or similar to pull.

Brian, I know that works for the older cars and the boots on the distributer end will slip off pretty easily. Not so sure about the 75 with the HEI setup. The boots might be molded on. I'd check with the manufacturer before pulling too hard. If they're not molded, the advise in the previous posts will work like a champ.

Brian, Yes, as the other post said you can carefully put a little WD-40 or silicone spray into the distributor boot and "very carefully" pull, twist it off(again, carefully). I have the front end jacked up, supported on stands, and I'll take the dist boot off the wire, and "feed" it down into and through the motor mount and up to dist along the block. You'll have to also remove your "V" shields if your car has them. Did it this way on a '79, my '75 & '80. I'll do the driver's side first, then do the two on the pass side.
