    3124 Fuel Bowls

How can I tell if the fuel bowls on my 3124 carb are correct?

    Re: 3124 Fuel Bowls

Start with the '65 Judging Guide as there are early and late versions of the 3124 bowls as well as the fuel line fastners. This is a pretty rare beast as it was short lived in favor of the '66 design that introduced internal filter/screens and dropped the GF-416 external filter. When the 3124 carbs saw service/refurb, oftentimes the original (prized) bowls went 'bye bye' in favor of the later style.

It's hard to describe without a picture, but original/early bowls are known as 'acorn' style meaning there is no large flare on the bowl's cast where the fuel lines connect. Once you've seen a real/true early 3124, the picture will be indelled in your mind. Some of the MF Dobbins Fact Book shots of 396 engines get close enough to show, but knowing what you're looking for to start with helps a bunch.

Holley has a limited supply of re-run original bowls, but BEND OVER when you hear their asking price! Some guys run the service spare bowls for driving and save the originals for show. Takes swap out of the bowls as well as the upper fuel line feeds to make the change over, but with the cost of GF-416 filters this isn't such a crazy idea....
