How do you clean wiring terminals

On my 73, the wiring harness that is exposed to the elements seams to be ok, but the terminals need to be cleaned from years of dirt, grime, etc. Is there a solution that terminals can be dipped in to clean them insuring good contact. Electronic component spray cleaners do not seem to do a good job in this case.

Several recent threads on this in the archieves--take a look see. You're up against several issues. First, there's petro based 'gook' (a savvy hi-tech term) that wants to be cleaned off to get down to the metal surface. Carb cleaner ought to suffice.

Once you're to the metal, these contacts were simply tin dipped and can/do oxidize as well as lose surface plate due to friction/wear. If this has happened, you've probably got some rust 'growing' that will simply return unless you replace the applicable contact or coat it.

Using a Dremel tool with tiny SS wire wheel will zip you down to underlying metal/plate. One item suggested instead of replacing contacts was coating them with a silicon grease to thwart oxidation progress.
