    Interchange....

Had a question from a local member yesterday doing frame off on his '63 coupe. He asked what kind of rivets were used to attach a rear compartment stamped metal piece to the floor/body panel. All he had was the P/N out of the AIM and as best as he could tell there was absolutely no way to back-stop/buck a conventional rivet in that location. He also knew that Chevy seldom used pop rivets and uploaded the question to me....

I was thinking of putting up a post and 'leaning' on Joe Lucia, when it occurred to me I'd purchased Fred Oliva's electronic mid-year parts interchange software and never loaded/fired it. So, I went about doing due diligence before bothering the Board with my query.

A little cumbersome and old (DOS based, but does run under Windows), but once installed I told it to search on the AIM rivet P/N. Bingo! A jillion corresponding 'where used' references jumped out including maybe six other places where the rivet was used on a '63. Called my member back and helped him by calling out Section/Drawing in his AIM. The first 'hit' we came to was the trim tag!

Way cool, ordinary pop rivet. Problem solved. Restoration work continued uninterrupted.....

Just thought I'd tell the tale as this was the first time I'd used Fred Oliva's product and it helped a BUNCH!
