67 wipr arm cant adjustment screw

My 67 has the single rivet with side adjusting screw configuration wiper arms with the cover plate on the backside. On one of the arms when turning on the srew I can feel it is connected to something but on the other side it just spins. Can someone tell me what's going on here and how can I correct it.

Re: 67 wiper arm cant adjustment screw

Remove the 'errant' wiper arm from the car. Flip it over and visually inspect the spring cover on the bottom. You'll see it 'snaps' into place and if you move slowly and carefully you can 'pop' open the cover from the base and bend it upward.

The base of the upper arm should have a hole drilled in it where a spring attaches to pull the arm into contact with the end of the adjust screw mechanism. The spring has either fallen off, or broken (NOT the main spring that holds the arm against the windshield). Reconnect or replace and snap the cover back in place. The adjust mechanism should be visually obvious, but if it's not you can pull the opposite arm and use it as a reference.

      Correction!

Cant adjust is NOT spring loaded as I reported. Pulled a spare wiper arm from my stache and re-looked. Only one spring inside (the main spring to hold against the windshield). The cant mechanism is 100% mechanical. So, if screw turns but upper arm doesn't respond (remember the adjust is MINOR), it says the threaded adjust column attached to the end of the upper arm assy has broken free. Suggest this could be repaired, but it looks tricky!

The upper arm is SS and the lower end has a dimple/peg on it. A brass cylinder installs over the dimple/peg and the brass is laterally drilled/tapped up higher. The adjust screw goes through the lateral hole to effect sideways motion of the upper arm....

        Re: Correction!

        Jack,

Thanks for the additional info. From what you have described I think that in my case the brass cylinder has come off the dimple or it broke in half because something ( most likely the cylinder ) doesn't allow me to remove the screw from the lower arm. I can raise it about 1/8 inch with my fingers but it won't pull out any further and it just spins when I turn it. I'll have to investigate further by taking it apart as you suggested. Thanks again.
