    Delco/GM Part Number Help

My records show a 53-54 Corvette takes a Delco D-110 ignition point set which is Part number 1925852. The older books (1940's) show a D-110 point set was part number 1882391. Most likely this same D-110 set was used on earlier(40's) Cadillacs, Buicks or Oldsmobiles. Can I impose on Joe Lucia or someone to see if the 1882391 number was superceeded by 1925852 and both are the same Delco D-110 ignition points? Any help is appreciated.

Yes, I can check on this later for you to confirm. However, I can virtually tell you now that the 1925852 superceded the 1882391, although there may have been other interim GM part numbers. Here's why: keep in mind that Delco system part numbers, also called "short numbers", (e.g D-110) are APPLICATION-specific. This is done to "ease the burden" of automotive technicians and parts store countermen who often sell Delco system parts. This system avoids the need for them to keep track of all the supercessions which may occur with the GM parts system "long number".

The GM parts system, on the other hand, uses the "long number" (usually a 6 to 8 digit series of numbers with no alpha characters). The "long number" is PART-specific. When a part is changed, even though it may still work for the same application, the part number is usually changed.

So, if you have references which show the Delco "short number" D-110 to be applicable to both the 1882391 and the 1925852 it almost certainly would indicate that the latter part superceded the earlier AND that both "long numbers" will SERVICE applications catalogued to use the D-110.

    But, I'll confirm this later.

I think that the problem here is that both contact sets are not D-110. I have confirmed that the GM #1882391 contact set was also known as D-110. This contact set was used for various pre-1950 Chevrolet 6 cylinder applications, but I can find no post-1950 applications for it. It was available until April, 1970 when it was discontinued without supercession.

The GM #1925852 contact set was catalogued as the 53-55 Corvette 6 cylinder contact set from the beginning. However, I have not been able to determine what its Delco "short number" was. This contact set was discontinued without supercession in March, 1971.

If you have some information that indicates that the 1925852 contact set was known as D-110, I'd be interested in learning about this.

Joe, Thanks as usual for the precise lesson. I do not have a foil box set of D-110 points but if someone out there does, they should have a part number on them. If so I would appreciate a response.

I'd be interested in learning what the Delco number is on a box with the GM #1925852 points.
