I ordered a couple of heater hose retainers for my 67 small block from Long Island Corvette Supply. They are the dark flat metal retainers that you wrap around the pair of hoses and clip to hold shut. The back of the retainers have a couple of small protrusions sticking out. What are the protrusions for? Thanks.

The protrusions are designed to fit in a drilled hole in the inner fender, then you squeeze the inside end of the protrusions (inside the clamp) with needle-nose pliers, which spreads the outer legs and holds the clamp to the inner fender.- Top

Re: Heater Hose Retainers
John, I am faced with missing the two hose retainers (67 Roadster BB). I have the middle one that bolts to the fender inner wall. I am confused, not new, All the references I have including where I found these in the AMI seem to show the retainers around the two heater hoses, one on both sides of the Fender wall mounting strap, one towards the heater side and one towards the block side and not mounted anywhere. I see no holes on my inner fender wall which appears original and I have not found in the AMI where they show mounting to the wall. I also have checked a couple other cars, all BB like mine and the 66 and other 67 had the two straps just around the hoses. Am I recalling seeing it wrong which is possible. I passed up buying two straps because the tabs you mentioned where present and I did not understand how they would be used. Thanks Joel- Top

I'm not that detail-familiar with '67 BB's, put there's a photo on page 419 of Noland's book of a non-A/C L71 that clearly shows one of the heater hose clamps we've been talking about (with the crimp-tabs in it) used to retain the heater hoses together, without using the tab feature to retain it to anything. It was apparently used for both retained and non-retained applications. Should be shown in the L36/L71 sections of the '67 A.I.M. (I only have the '65 A.I.M.).- Top
