    Re: Terry

On steel-bodied cars, standard Fisher Body identification for special-order paint codes on the Fisher Trim Tag on the cowl was "- -"; Chevrolet may have followed the same procedure.

      Black paint *TL*

Mike will have to tell us what his trim tag sais, but the ones I saw all had variations on the word special. There were no dashes on these few cars, but there were variations among them.

The original owner 1971 I saw had no COPO numbers on the build sheet and the owner paid $100 extra for St. Louis to paint the car black.

          Re: Emissions Labels

Sorry for the delay guys. The trim tag reads "SPC PAINT" no dashes, all upper case. The car has an interesting history in that it was ordered through the General Motors Overseas Distributors Corp. in Naples, Italy. The order was a Military Sales Order at the Pelli office. Under color it says "See Remarks" where it indicates the following, "Special Note: Customer desires this car in EXTERIOR COLOR OF BLACK, if this is not possible accepts exterior color of CORTEZ SILVER #13." I also have a letter they sent to the owner saying the extra cost for special paint is, or was, $83.00 since it had to be done on a special request. I also have a copy of what they reffered to as the "car release authorization" form. On that form under color it has Nevada Silver (X'd out) and typed in "Black (Tuxedo)". The car was eventually delivered to Oak Hill Motors in Eastchester, New York for the returning Navy soldier.

Terry, Mr. Ken Kraft was the original owner...I don't think this is the vehicle you make reference to because it has been stored since 1980?

As far as the paint condition, I'm not sure if this is crazing...but I call it cracked. In some spots it is extreme to the point where it is gone (gas tank filler and part of the rear vents).

Anyway, to get back to my original question. The blue emissions label is in place and it sounds like the other white label could have fallen off?

If anybody has interest in viewing any of the documents or parts of the car I'd be happy to e-mail photos.

          Thanks
          Mike

            Re: Emissions Labels *TL*

            Mike,

Thanks for the info. Sounds like you have some neat documentation. I doubt it is the same car. That one was a convertible 390 hp. Black top and black interior. As I recall he was from Tennessee. His paperwork showed he paid $100 for the black paint. Your guy got a bargain.

Sorry I failed to address the emissions label. Yes after about 25 years the glue failed on mine, and it is common to see bubbling under old original labels. My guess would be yours just fell off.
