I own a 1969 small block convertible. The rear-end half-shafts on my car appear to have a larger diameter than what I see on other cars. Is it possible that these are aftermarket replacements? Do the half-shafts have factory codes? If so, where?

Re: 1969 Half-Shaft
Chris-----
ALL 1963-74 Corvettes used half shafts of 2-1/2" tube diameter. In 1975, GM changed the size of the PRODUCTION half shafts to 3" tube diameter. Very shortly thereafter the 63-74 2-1/2" halfshafts were discontinued and, these 3" half shafts, GM #360912, became the SERVICE half shaft catalogued by GM for all 63-74 models. They're still available to this very day. Apparently, at some time your half-shafts were replaced with new GM half shafts or used half shafts off of a 75-79 model.
I believe that the 360912 half shafts are manufactured by Spicer. So, they may be available from aftermarket sources, too.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
