    Mid year vs shark shifters

I reached into my box of stuff and found i have two sets of 4sp shifters. I'm planning on installing one of them on my late 65. I know there is a difference between 65 mid year and shark shifters. I don't know what the differences are. From a more practical standpoint what I really need is a way to tell if these shifters are correct for my 65. They may both be correct or both for a shark. i just don't know. Any help out there in how to ID. Just to make things a little more interesting, the T handles are missing on both.

    Jerry------

The main difference between 64-67 and 68+ shifter assemblies is the length of the shifter lever. The 68+ are about 1" longer. However, I don't recall the actual lengths of the 2 arms. However, if you compare the 2 you have and they have different length arms, the shorter one is for the mid-year.

I've measured both and they are both 6 3/4 inches from the top of the knob threads to the square base.?? Anybody know how long 63-67 ought to be?

Jerry --- Looks like you have the '64-'67 shift lever; just measured my '65 (console is removed) and it's 1/16" longer than your 6.25", to the top of the threaded shaft (from the square base).

I believe the difference is in the height of the square base, not the round shaft, so check more carefully. the distance from the pivot pin to the start of the round shaft is about 1 inch more on the shark shifters.

            Jerry, Wayne, and Bill------

The 68-76 shifter lever is 8-7/16" from the center of the pivot pin to the top of the shifter knob threads. Also, it is 6-7/8" from the top of the square base to the top of the threads.

              Re:Thanks -anybody need 68+ shifters

I guess I'll be looking for a mid year shifter. I appreciate the help sorting this out.
