I have read the lastest discussions on here about underhood blackout paint, but not quite sure if the paints discussed would apply to my 61 blackout. So far two types have been mentioned (1) Eastwood's Underhood Black (2) John Deere Blitz Black. If someone with more knowledge than I could comment on my search I would appreciate it very much. Also would a aerosol spray be as effective as buying by the can and using my sprayer? Lastly, can someone recommend where these can be bought and if possible should my local automotive paint supplier have underhood black paint available. Thanks so much.

Re: 1961 Underhood Blackout
Craig,
The Blitz Black can be bought at your local John Deere tractor dealer. He'll probably have both spray cans and quart cans. If you buy it by the quart so that you can spray it yourself, you'll have to get their thinner too, neither lacquer thinner or mineral spirits will work. It's as close to semi-gloss as you can get. Looks good too.

Re: 1961 Underhood Blackout
The original GM black-out was named "Eggshell Black". I prefer the John Deere Blitz Black over anything I've ever tried. It IS a semi gloss that has a subtile glowing sheen and an eggshell texture. Hard to beat. I use the high quality adjustable pattern aerosol spray cans. I buy it by the case!
