    '70 door/ignition/tire key relationship

What were the key/lock relationships in 1970. Were the door and ignition keyed the same (square) while the storage and spare tire were keyed the same (round)? Or were the door and storage on the same key.

If it matters, I do not have the alarm system.

You have it correct, the square ignition key operated the ignition and the doors. The round key operated the storage compartment and the spare lock. Early cars with alarm and a small brigg and stratton key while later used the round key as mentioned above. Thad

For 1970 door and Ignition are square head J keyway. Storage compartment and spare tire are round head K keyway. Depending on VIN of your 1970, neither key might work the alarm even if you had it.

There is an explanation of this relationship in the 1970-1972 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide available from the NCRS office and through this site.

On my '70 #04102 the door and ignition are the same (square). The storage & tire lock are the same (round). The alarm is a totally different key altogether (briggs & stratton). I've got the original keys, key envelope & punchouts and my car was unrestored when I got it, so I'm fairly certain this is the factory setup. ~Juliet
