    67 air cleaner cover

Gentlemen - There was a thread recently discussing the chrome air cleaner cover ('67 327/350), and it had to do with 'silk screening', or something to that effect for the underneath surface. Of course, the outer surface is chrome, but what was the part about 'silk screening'? Did I get that right, or did I grossly miss the point of that discussion?

I plan to get my cover re-chromed, but don't want to mess-up any significant markings or such. Also, I believe it was originally 'flashed chromed' v. triple-plate chroming?

    Advice is appreciated, as always.

    Thanks.

Sikk screening is the mehtod normally used to print the care instructions on the air cleaner. All of the original chrome work I have seen on Chevys (or Fors, for that matter) was "flash chromed". This is actually a cheap quickie method of chrome plating directly on the steel of a new part. Triple plating is copper, then nickle, then chrome, polished at each step. This is the work which looks like liquid chrome when properly done. Strangely, I still have the original flash chrome on the valve covers of my 47 year old 'Vette and my 35 year old Ford, with very little pitting.
