Re: 66-390-F-40/F-41?
66 390 hp Corvettes ALL came with the old F-40 type designation. Chevrolet production records show that only 425hp cars (L-72)could get the new F-41 option, and out of a total of 5258 L-72s only 2705 got the F-41 option. This is interesting to me because the standard F-40 suspention package and the optional F-41 package was exactly the same parts package! You figure it out... There are many 66s in Noland Adams survey on F-40/41 that report 390hp cars with the F-41 option. Under the circumstances there is no way to tell the difference and with all the individual parts available it would be easy to build the option onto the car no matter what engine it had. Nolands' survey found many base cars with a reported F-41 option........

Re: 66-390-F-40/F-41?
Bob - the F-40 designation was used in '64 and '65 for the SB HD suspension - same springs and bar setup as used on the '63 Z06 - 550/305 lbs/in springs, a 15/16" front anti-roll bar, and no rear bar.
I don't see F-40 listed for '66 in the NCRS spec guide. Didn't the L-36 cars just have the standard rate springs with front and rear anti-roll bars?
I understand that F-41 for the L-72s used the old F-40 springs with both front and rear bars. I think the bar sizes for all BBs were 7/8" and 9/16" - either base or F-41.

Re: 66-390-F-40/F-41?
Duke, Yes you are correct, the F-40 was used in 64-65 but, for some reason they used the spec's for it in 66 for all the cars. The part I don't get is that the new F-41 designation was added in 66 and used on the 425hp model only(2700 of 5500 aprox.) was exactly the same group of parts as the standard (old F-40) suspention. Looks like GM got away with charging people extra for the option when they would have gotten the same thing without ordering it. ? Check out the section in Nolands' book on 66 F-40/41 suspentions and you'll see what I mean. I sure could be wrong ,but that's the way I read it.
