    C1 Seat back brackets

I just received some seat back brackets for my 56. This is the bracket that goes between the two seat slide tracks at the back of the seat. This bracket has 4 holes and a threaded stud. If I install the bracket, the threaded stud will be directly over one of the cage nuts for mounting the seat slide rails. There is no cage nut under the fourth hole in this bracket. The other 3 holes line up with cage nuts in the floor just fine.

    1. Do I have the wrong brackets?
    2. Was there something different with the 56 cars (#003719) in this area?

    thanks

    Re: C1 Seat back brackets

Dave, I don't fully understand your question, but here goes. The bracket goes in with the stud up into one of the holes in the seat track. The other hole in the seat track lines up with a captive nut, and the hole in the bracket should line up with another captive nut. I belive that all solid axle seat tracks were the same. John

      Re: C1 Seat back brackets

      John,
There are four captive nuts in the floor of my car, on each side, to hold down the seat tracks. These four nuts line up with the four holes in the seat tracks. If I use the stud the I cannot use one of the captive nuts in my floor. There is one hole in the bracket that does not line up with a captive nut in the floor. So I can only put 3 bolts into the bracket.

I am confused as to what is wrong.

      thanks

        Re: C1 Seat back brackets

Dave the rear mounting holes for each side should number 4 per side, but the outboard track on each side should have a larger space between them than the inboard track. This larger spacing is to allow the in board fastner on the outboard track to atttach to the bracket rather then the seat track. go out and look at your car again as this should be the configuration of all 56-60 cars according to the info I have. If not, I don't know what to tell you. John

Re: C1 Seat back brackets- Dave

          Dave,
Both seat support brackets in my '56 had four holes each, nothing more. I don't know what you would do with a bracket with a stud attached. Regards,

            Hey Jim

Are you saying that 56 cars did not use the bar that went between the rear mounts on the tracks? Never owned a 56, but all the parts catalogs show the bar being used on 56-60 cars. That brings up another good question, what purpose does the bar serve? John

              John,
The '56 did have this bar. In '56 this bar had four holes which lined up with the captive nuts (for the seat rail brackets) in the floorboard. The '56 bracket did not have a welded stud. Believe the bracket was intended to spread out the rear load of the seat bracket to body. Regards,

                Thanks Jim

Interesting, I would love to know what the reason for them adding the stud and moving the hole in on the brace, Must have been just a time saving tool on the production line so the brace was firmly attached to the tracks when installed.
