    Hard Top Mounting Help

What is the best way to install new rubber cushions and new metal grommets into the deck lid of a '67 roadster for the hard top mounting. Trying to bend the "ears" over with a pair of pliers doesn't seem to want to work too well, wso maybe someone else has tried to do this and can offer suggestions. Thanks in advance.

    Donald,

------Had the same problem as you with installation of deck hardtop trim. The way I came up with was this:
------1st.,bend the three tabs out just enough that they will still pass thru the hole.
    ------2nd.,place them in the hole.
------3rd.,place one of the outside hardtop bolts thru the trim peice and put a flat washer and nut on.The washers hole should be only big enough to barely go on the bolt.
------4th.,with a box end wrench on the bolt, carefully tighten the nut.As you go keep a close eye on things so that you dont overtighten the assembly and mark the paint.the tabs should bend over perfectly and thats that!Hope this helps..............Bill S

You sound like you know whats up-Are there GM NOS or repro parts (rubber/chromed caps or stoppers?) to plug up the deck holes used for the aft pins on the hardtop. Naturally, these holes leak water into the storage/top storage area unless I stuff something in to holes when I wash the car. It just seems logical there are stoppers out there somewhere.

-----Yes there are some really simple stainless plugs that I have seen on a number of cars, but I dont know where to get them from.My bet would be Long Island Corvette, but thats just a guess.Maybe someone one else on the board knows..........Bill S

You'll find the plugs in a number of catalogs including C-Central and Dr. Rebuild. You can also save a $ by going to a hardware store with a full line of fasteners and rummaging through their SS hole plug selection.
