    67 Holley Carb,Shaft leakage

    The secondary shaft has developed a seepage on the right side.
    Any info on a repair kit,or does the base plate have to be replaced?

    Are you sure it's not oil migrating up the intake manifold bolts? Check to see if its oil or gas.

      It's not your baseplate

      Holley throttle shafts are not "sealed" where they penetrate the baseplate. In other words, a little of any fuel puddling on the closed butterflys will run out the ends of the shafts.

      Your problem sounds like heat perculation, a warped main body, a leaking secondary gasket, a warped secondary metering block or plate, or a combination of several of these typical Holley goose jobs.

      You can have your Holley main body re-machined by a professional rebuilder, or you can do it yourself (mostly) with a hand file. Whatever you do, don't send your carb to Holley for a rebuild. Odds are, it will still leak when you get it back from them. I know.

        Hi Dave,

        My memory is a bit fuzzy here but don't the secondary throttle shafts have the teflon bushings?

        This really isn't a hard job (sounds more complicated than it is). Disassemble the carb to the base plate. You'll have to file off the stakings on the throttle butterfly plate screws then remove. Mark everything "front/top" to return to proper configuration. Slide out the throttle shaft and as I remember there's two small white plastic "bushings", one on either side. Replace (in rebuild kit) and reassemble. Probably not a bad idea to do the primaries while you're at it. Remember also to re-stake the throttle plate screws (& support the shaft so not to bend it)

        If you're concerned because you see some leakage onto the intake manifold & surmise this is from the secondaries....possibly. True baseplate & intake, proper gaskets, evenly tightened...and mine still does this.

        Good luck. Most #4160's I've run across are possessed.

          Hey Carl Rose!

          The fuel is definately leaking from the shaft on the right side straight down on to the intake like you said.I verified it by adding a small o-ring on the outside of the shaft and it just about ceased.And.....it only does it when its been sitting over night.I havent pulled the carb off to check tightness of screws ,etc.Why does the gas get to that shaft hole when its sitting?Maybe its not a seal at the end of the shaft(teflon like you said.Floats set to high?
          I do like the performance of this carb.I just dont want to make it worse!!
