    Alternator pulley

Is the gm part number 3883978 the correct number for the alternator pulley on a 64 327/365 hp 1111655 alternator?

    Dino---

Your alternator part number "doesn't compute". And, you didn't mention if your car has A/C. So, assuming that you mean alternator part number GM #1100665 (which is a 55 amp unit used on cars with A/C) then you should have alternator pulley GM #3844100.

Your right Joe I mis-typed the Alternator part number...and I am interested in the pulley p/n for the 64 AC 365 car, is the 3883978 number fit later AC cars? will it work as a 3844100? What do you think the differences are?

The first PRODUCTION use of the GM #3883978 pulley was for certain 1966 427 applications. Thereafter, it was used on a variety of applications. However, it couldn't have originally been used on your 64 since it it hadn't been released yet.

I believe that the difference between the two pullies is related to a small diameter difference as well as the thickness of the "built in spacer" on the inside surface of the pulley. Both pullies are made of machined steel but, as far as I know, they're not interchangeable with respect to applications.
