    Price Shopping GM# 12568774 425hp/454 Crate Motor

    Anyone have dealership connections to get jobber or club pricing on GM part#12568774 or old part#24502618? Best price I have found is from Scoggins-Dickey at $4,400. VIP shipping to Atlanta would also be a plus.
    Thanks, Larry

    gmpartsdirect.com lists the motor for $4364.50 and I think they are based in North Carolina.

    Good Luck

      Your best bet will be to try to find a dealer locally that will match the best price you find elsewhere. Many GM dealers will be competitive on these engine assemblies. A local purchase will eliminate the freight charges entirely. Usually, these freight charges will "eat up" just about any savings that you get from distant dealers. Of course, if you have to pay a sales tax on a local purchase and "escape it" on an out-of-state purchase, that can be another consideration in the equation.

        $4400.00 is at or very close to dealer net for that assembly. If you can find a local GM dealer to sell it anywhere near that price that's the best bet. The web sites that quote these prices must make their profit only on the shipping.

          Yes, the on-line GM parts dealer mentioned previously basically sells everthing at dealer cost. However, there is a 15%, or so, "shipping and handling charge". That is where their profit comes into the picture. They freely admit this and I consider it a very honest way of doing business; no "sleight of hand, at all, or "gimmicks" with "differential" discounts. Many other GM dealers will sell parts at discounted prices that are about the same as cost + 15%, so it's really all just about the same----they just have different ways of getting to the same thing price-wise.

            Joe and John's advice regarding on-line pricing vs. local pricing is spot on the money. One of the keys to finding good prices on engine assemblies is finding a volume dealer. These assemblies get a lot less expensive to the dealer who can order a truckload at a time. I am told that is 62 engines. This is another of the ways the on-line dealers make money selling at dealer cost.

            BTW: gmpartsdirect.com is Flow Chevrolet. They are in Ohio. I believe the fine print on their home page states who and where they are.

              gmpartsdirect.com location correction

              Terry,

              To the best of my knowledge, Flow Chevrolet is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

              Also, an addendum to Joe's message about cost savings and gmpartsdirect.com. Gmpartsdirect.com only makes sense cost-wise if you are buying multiple parts or high-ticket items. Where is doesn't make sense is the purchase of a single, low cost item. For example, if one were to purchase say 1 nut, part # 9422295, from gmpartsdirect.com, the cost information would be:

              GM list= $3.50; GM wholesale = $2.63
              gmpartdirect.com = $2.10 + $9.95 S&H = $12.05

              Obviously, even with sales tax, your local GM dealer is going to be a better deal, even if you can't get them to sell to you below list.

                Yes, Flow is in Winston-Salem, NC. Modern Chevrolet in Winston-Salem also buys engines in great quantity. 800 334-0165
