I HAVE STOCK MUFFLERS NOW BUT THE ARE TOO QUIET. I WAS THINKING OF PUTTING GLASS PACKS OR TURBO MUFFLERS OR FLOWMASTERS ON IT. IT HAS ONE MIDAS AND ONE GENERIC MUFFLER ON IT NOW. I WANTED IT TO BE LOUDER. EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE CAR IS STOCK ORIGINAL. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Eric,
The side exhaust for the midyear applications were the best I think for making a lot of noise especially for the big blocks. There are companies like(Mid america, Eklers etc, that sell/produce the same "mufflers" that are undercar for your vette. The price on them is pretty good($250 to $300 or so). Fit is excellent. Try getting a catalog or looking on-line for them. They're worth it.- Top

Re: 1972 CORVETTE LS5 454 MUFFLERS
I have some inexpensive mufflerson my 70 that are manufactured by Pace. I have really got a huge amount of wear out of them and they still look in good shape. I put them on about 12-14 years ago. They are not quiet and I like the sound even though my car has a turbo 400, I think 4-speeds sound better. They sound even better to me when I get on it when the douple pumper Holley is opened up on the 350 ZZ1 crate engine. I would have to go through my old invoices but I think I bought them from ZIP Corvette parts.- Top

Re: 1972 CORVETTE LS5 454 MUFFLERS
Eric, I had the same situation with my 70 Big Block. The Corvette Central system was to quiet so I went to an undercar chambered system from Allens exhaust. Plenty of noise and the majority of the noise exits behind the driver unlike the conventional side exhaust. It is a good system,I felt. Other option is to go with the off road muffler system also built by Allens. That is closer to the original sound.- Top

Re: 1972 CORVETTE LS5 454 MUFFLERS
Eric,
I bought Allens Off Road System for my 71 Big Block 4 Speed, they were a good fit and well made...but they were also mild sounding. I then bought the chambered under car pipes which now sound more like a 67 Big Block side pipe car....GREAT SOUND.
I guess it just depends on how much sound you want to hear. I think they sound really good.
My 2 cents worth.

Re: 1972 CORVETTE LS5 454 MUFFLERS
buy the dynomax super turbo mufflers that are a direct replacement for the stock mufflers, they use the stock hangers (GM still sells) and sound perfect. They will get a little bit louder after about 500 miles. they are not cheap, about $100 a piece. I put them on my 71 LS6 and they sound perfect, everything else is to loud and does not look stock- Top

Re: 1972 CORVETTE LS5 454 MUFFLERS
I just installed a Mid-America chambered undercar system on my 66, and I think it sounds great. have not had the car on the road yet, but it sounds good sitting in the driveway. Not very loud until you punch it! It also installed relatively easy and the fit was pretty good.- Top
