C 1 clutch adjustment

I have just installed a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out barring in my 59.

What is the best adjustment method to ensure proper wear and correct release?

I have followed the ST 12 method and my pedal releases about 1" from the floor when letting off the clutch from a stop. However, I have a great deal of travel when puching the clutch in. It is not engaging the clutch until the pedal is half way to the floor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I just read the ST-12 inst. and was impressed how complicated they can make it. What you want is 1" of free play at the top before you feel the throwout bearing contact the fingers of the pressure plate. This is done with your hand on the pedal. Just adjust the push rod until you have at LEAST 1" play then test to make sure you don't go over center at the bottom. If the pedal pops back up when you release it, you're home free.

Adjust the lower rod (from the cross shaft lever to the clutch fork) so you have about 1" or so of free travel at the pedal pad from the fully up position (pedal arm up against the rubber bumper) to when you feel resistance (when it engages the throwout bearing).

What type of clutch did you install? Borg and Beck or Diaphragm? Also what brand?
