Restoring Corvette's for the last 34 year's I could not go back to lacquer. It shrink's no matter how long you let the primer set. I have used Glasurit single stage on many car's now. Used it on my own 62 and it has been on there 10 year's and 10,000 miles and look's as good as the day I done it. Judges thought it was Lacquer. The single stage does not give that real wet look. This paint also spot's in great. I ran into the back of a mini van. Still enjoying the ride.

In 1996 I attended the NCRS Nationals in St. Paul, Minnesota. Representatives from 3M were there presenting their line of finishing materials. They told me that the present lacquers on the market are a softer lacquer than the originals, can be buffed off a surface faster (watch those edges), and has a life expectancy of two years. Could it be that over the years the EPA has destroyed all that was "good" about the original lacquer?

Now the question? If I prepare a car for NCRS Top Flight, Bloomington Gold, Gold Spinner, & Triple Crown, this journey will probably take more than two years. If I use the present day lacquers will I have to repaint this car before realizing this goal?

And another question. If the present lacquers are not the same formulation as the original lacquers, can they be considered the original finish for these cars? Or is water still water no matter how much alcohol is added to it.
