    67 Wheels anad Tires

What's the widest tire that can be mounted on a stock 67 rally wheel? Thanks.

In most cases a PR215 X 70R15 will not interfere but 205 is an absolute baring any non stock modifications

I'd recommend a 215/70R-15. It has the same revs per mile (775) as the OEM 7.75-15 bias plies, the six inch wheels are adequate width, and it should fit without any serious interference with the body.

All-season performance and touring tires in this size are available in speed ratings up to "Z". You can search www.tirerack.com under this size to check out most of the available models in this size.

It you want the ultimate in handling and snob appeal, the vintage Michelin XWX from www.cokertire.com in this size is the ticket, but they cost about a thousand bucks a set.

        Are we "cheap"?

Thinking about $1000 for the XWXs.

If one were re-shoeing a new C5, would one put $100 tires on it?

Do we not spend thousands on restoration and refurbishment?

Then why are we so cheap on tires?

Michelin makes the V-rated "Energy MXV4" in 215/70R-15 (778 revs/mile). Super tire @ less than half the cost ($110-$120/tire) of their vintage "XWX".

I agree Lonnie. We've got cars that are worth, on average, as much as a two or three year old C5, so I don't have any reservations about spending a kilobuck to buy the best high performance tires available, but a lot of guys don't really drive their cars that hard. I don't care about 40,000 mile treadwear guarantees. Maximum dry grip and handling is what I want.

There are a number of H,V, and Z-rated 215/70R-15s out there at about a hundred bucks each, but I suspect that the vintage XWX provides higher limits and better nine-tenths response. I think they would be my choice just for the snob appeal, but Hinckley's about the only guy who knows what the heck they are.

              Re: 67 Wheels anad Tires

My 67 has the modern Michelins that cost less than $100 ea (5-6 years ago). They provide excellent traction and give the car an "agressive" appearance.

                Re:A different way to Retire!

Another alternative is to upsize. I run 245/45-17's on my 67 BB Coupe and 65 SB coupe. Fit great and drive superb. The tires of BFG Comp T/A mounted on American Racing 17X7 inch Torque Thrust II wheels. Drives a hell of lot better than any 15 inch wheel/tire combination I've tried. That includes Michelin's, redlines, whitewalls etc. This does require a wheel change. Should you desire the rally wheel look, Vintiques and other wheel manufacturers now make 17 inch rally wheels for that "almost" factory look.

I personally am not a rally wheel fan, therefore the "period" look of the Torque Thrust II suits me better. Since the Torque Thrust II is a 2 piece wheel off-set can be ordered however the wheels I have are standard off-set Chevrolet 17X7 inch wheels.

Ride is as good/better than the 15 inch wheel/tire combination and the look (my opinion) is much better.

Anybody for DUBS? That's homeboy for 20 inch tires for you guys not from the hood.
