    1960 270 HP engine pulleys

I have a fan belt that is supposed to fit my 270 hp engine but it seems a little short. I have the deep groove pulley onthe generator, but I am wondering if I have the right waterpump and crank pulleys. Is there a difference in pulleys between solid lifter motors and hydraulic lifter motors? Thanks.

No, for 1960 there is not. Your crankshaft pulley should be GM #3756328 and that number should be stamped on the face of the pulley. Your water pump pulley should be GM #3724816 and that number should be stamped on the front of the pulley.

Do you have the appropriate spacers?

        No, but

        the harmonic balancer is different.

            Re: No, but

The hydraulic lifter cars used a two piece balancer with two different diameter discs. The small inertia ring faced the radiator on hydraulics but on the solid lifter engines this arrangement was reversed with a large diameter (about six inches)inertia ring faching the radiator.

I don't know what difference this balancer application would have with respect to fan belt alignment. Sometimes the four hole water pump flange isn't pressed on to the correct depth on the water pump shaft and this error could cause a problem.

There is a spacer ring that should be inside the timing chain cover aginst the timing gear sprocket and another reinforcement disc behind the water pump pulley. Absence of the crankshaft spacer will cause alignment problems.

            Dale.
