    65 wiper switch

I had a short in the switch and need to replace the switch. I have removed the switch, but the nut did not come off. The threads look boggered( the switch looks like someone cross threaded the nut from previous removal) and wanted to replace the nut. the assembley manual shows it on the outer part of the dash and attached to the switch. The switch is al ready out? Is it attached to the dash or bonded with some glue. Not to sure how to go from here?

There is a special nut to hold the switch into the dash cluster. The switch goes in the back side and the nut on the front. The knob is then attached with a set screw.
